Needless to say if you can't really afford it. Also, If you don't need the additional processing power then don't waste your money. Turning over your machine in a few years will get you much greater benfits alebit at a cost - probably a greater outlay than the cost of the i7 now but happy to be proven wrong. If neither of these answers are YES, then don't buy it. Do you want to (can afford to) spend the money? Do you intend to keep the device for a long time? To me you need to answer these 2 questions. yes it is a marginal increase, yes it is a few hundred $'s but each to their own. This means I get another year out the device. People speak of it being only 10% more powerful - to me that is 1-2 generations of chip so the i7 I have ordered will be equivalent (very roughly) to next year's i5.
